MARTIN WEINBERG
PRESIDENT & SENIOR MANAGING DIRECTOR
Martin Weinberg brings extensive private and public company experience, including development and implementation of growth and acquisition strategies in Canada and the United States. Mr. Weinberg was previously founder, President and CEO of Assante Corporation and Loring Ward International. Until its sale in 2003, Assante was a TSX-listed wealth management company with a network of operations extending across Canada and the United States. A start-up company in 1995, Assante was sold for approximately $1 billion of value eight years later. Upon the sale of Assante, its U.S. operations were spun off into a new company, Loring Ward, where Mr. Weinberg served as Chairman and CEO.
DANIEL FRIEDMAN
MANAGING DIRECTOR
Prior to joining Canterbury Park, Daniel Friedman was a founding partner of Tetrem Capital Partners, an investment management firm with over $1.5 billion of assets under management. Previously, he was Executive Vice-President with Assante, responsible for overall management of Assante's U.S. operations. Mr. Friedman first joined Assante as a key member on the corporate integration team, responsible for the integration of acquired firms. Prior to Assante, Mr. Friedman was a management consultant with KPMG and an officer in the Israeli Defense Forces. Mr. Friedman holds a Bachelor of Law (LLB) from Tel Aviv University and a Masters in Business Administration (gold medallist) from the University of Manitoba.
DENIS TAILLIEU
CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
Denis Taillieu was an audit Partner with KPMG LLP for 17 years, responsible for the assurance practice in the Winnipeg office. He worked with multiple domestic and international clients, representing a myriad of businesses, sectors and industries, including financial services, real estate and manufacturing. In 1999, Mr. Taillieu joined Assante as Chief Financial Officer and oversaw its initial public offering. He was responsible for all financial related activities, including financial management and integration of over 20 subsidiary companies in Canada and the U.S., debt financing, financial and legal due diligence and structuring of acquisitions and divestitures, banking and taxation.
BRUCE WARNOCK
GENERAL COUNSEL
Bruce Warnock served as general counsel of Assante from 1996 to 2003 and then as general counsel of Loring Ward from 2003 to 2005. He also served as Corporate Secretary of each company. At Assante, Mr.Warnock played a key role in executing the company's Canadian acquisition strategy as well as its corporate finance activities. Mr. Warnock has been practicing law for nearly 25 years, focusing on corporate and commercial law, with a particular emphasis on income tax and securities law.
JONATHAN KLIEWER
SENIOR ASSOCIATE
Jonathan Kliewer was a Senior Manager with the Corporate Finance group in the Winnipeg office of KPMG until joining Canterbury Park in February 2008. Mr. Kliewer worked with clients in a variety of industries including manufacturing, food products, real estate and financial services and managed numerous engagements in the areas of corporate finance, valuations, business advisory, due diligence, financial modeling and strategic business planning. Mr. Kliewer holds the Chartered Accountant (CA) and Chartered Business Valuator (CBV) designations and was awarded the Bronze Medal for achievement of third place in Manitoba on the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants 2000 Uniform Final Examination.
